Although we haven’t seen this drastic of an increase in our neighborhoods I wouldn’t be surprised if they start to spill over from the hotels and parking decks which are being heavily targeted by thieves. But nope, many are taking advantage of the “return to normal” to take advantage of you. In May alone car break-ins across the city were up 44% from 2020. With the pandemic slowing down, and kids being out of school for summer you’d expect everyone to be taking advantage of the sunshine with vacations and BBQ’s. This means if you have a backyard pool or you are planning on adding one, or even thinking of getting one, please invite me over and we can have an Official Pool opening and I can even do my Signature Presidents Cannonball to get things off to a perfect Summer! By the way, do you remember back earlier when I said I have no real powers as President? The only real power I have is as official “Backyard Pool Opener”. Get out and make this the best summer ever! On a personal note, I’m extending an invitation to join a small group that works out 5 days a week at 6:30 am on the sidewalk of the 900 block of Sedgefield Road for an easy 30 min workout, hope to see you there. I look forward to seeing more of everyone this Summer. (note: I am not responsible for any unreturned tools). Don’t buy it…Borrow it! Get out and ask a neighbor and make a new friend in the process. We would love to hear your ideas, too! One other way I have found to really get out and meet neighbors, is to borrow a tool! Summer projects mean you always need that one crazy tool or such that you don’t have. Maybe a Sedgefield Olympics of some kind- anyone want to help organize it?.Back yard or garden tours - would you be willing to share your yard creations with neighbors?.Adding a page to the Sedgefield website dedicated to photos of your dogs and other pets. This way when we see someone walking their dog, we can say “hi” to them, too!.Offer another limited run of Sedgefield tee shirts and maybe even hats.First Responders event to meet local Fire, Police and EMS teams. We like to call it “Peddling with the Popo”) Neighborhood Bike ride with the police (meet at Sedgefield church with a few police and peddle the neighborhood….Live music events, do you know any good groups to recommend that might play for tips?.We will continue food trucks in the park, as folks seem to love it!.Maybe add in a softball game or two as well Weekly (most like Sunday evening) Family kickball and whiffle ball games. We are looking at programs and events like: Please reach out to me (or any other board member) via FB or any other way you can find me (btw, I respond very quickly to notes written on $20 bills and left at my house). We would love your input, ideas, feedback and volunteering to join and help. We are working on alot of ideas and programs to help us get out more and interact safely. Plus, we have so many new families move into to Sedgefield, it’s a great time to t them and get to know them better.
We missed so much last year with social distancing, working from home, zooming, quarantining, etc.
Because I’m so excited, I’m going to use the special powers vested in me by my ostentatious title as President of the Sedgefield Neighborhood association and make a Proclamation I think I officially declare this the “Summer of Get Out and Meet Your Neighbors” (In actuality, I have no real powers at all, but it feels good sometimes to make sweeping proclamations). Its so much better than last summer and we are all able to get out and get back to normal. But you know what? I LOVE IT! I’m so excited about the Summer of 2021 in Sedgefield. I’m pretty sure I can even feel the humidity on its way here. I’ve planted tons of flowers and plants, started using the AC and now even watering the lawn.
